Safety Protocols

The safety of our staff and students is our highest priority as we return to school this fall. On this page you will find additional information about how we plan to keep our buildings and buses clean and safe as we return to school.

Overall Safety Precautions

For students who attend in-person, we will be following all of the guidelines laid out in the MI Safe Schools: Return to School Roadmap, including additional sanitizing and distancing measures, as well as the use of personal protective equipment.

Based on this roadmap,  we have created this document for parents, which summarizes what parents can expect from our schools based on which phase of the MI Safe Start Plan our region is in. For more detailed information, parents and community members can view our full Preparedness and Response Plan, which was developed with the guidance of the Macomb County Health Department.

Most importantly, we ask parents to check their child for symptoms before sending them to school in the morning and have provided this symptom checklist to help. Do not send your child to school sick. We all need to work together to keep each our students and staff healthy!

Building Cleanliness and Safety

Interstate Premier Facility Services has taken over as our new custodial provider as of July 1, 2020. This interview explains the company's approach to cleaning and disinfecting Eastpointe Community Schools for the 2020 Return to Learning.

Some examples of precautions you can expect to see in our buildings include:

  • Regular disinfection of frequently touched surfaces
  • Disinfection of student desks and hands-on class spaces after each class period
  • Hand sanitizer and sanitizing spray/wipes in all classrooms and offices, as well as throughout the building
  • Nightly disinfection throughout the buildings using fogger

Bus Safety

Our partners at Dean Transportation have laid out specific guidelines and enhanced sanitizing procedures to help keep students and drivers safe on our school buses.

Students will need to wear a mask on the bus and sit in their assigned seats. Hand sanitizer will be available. Please do not send your child to the bus stop if they are sick or showing symptoms of COVID-19.
